In Peru, there are many demands on government spending, and for a variety
of
reasons,
the people in the mountains receive little or no assistance with basic
infrastructure. Many of the things that we commonly use, such as faucets,
lightswitches, heat or A/C, do not exist for many people. For this
reason,
Adventure Holidays Peru has
been providing the materials and logistics to help our neighbors in the
mountains.
We invite our traveling visitors to join any of our social projects. At
no
additional cost to you, we are able to invest a small percentage
of our profits to assist people in rural, developing communities.
You do not need special training and this is a great way to enhance your
language skills as well as interact with local people. You can choose toget personally involved in the projects or just observe. You can assist
our
crews for a few hours or a few days. Adventure Holidays Peru will take
care
of all the logistics, including the hiring of local tradesmen services, ifneeded.
Our preference is to focus on small schools.
For example, we arranged the Pillao Matao project, and assisted school administrators with the installation of water pipes in their small kitchen.
This is a small school on the outskirts of Cusco, in the San Jeronimo district. The Number of the school is 51037 and is called "Virgen del Carmen", but it is best known as Pillao Matao, which is the name of the community in which the school is located.
When mirgrant families relocate for work in the city, their children need
to
go to school. These are the children who want to learn, even though they must sometimes walk great distances to school. Most of them bring a piece of wood to school each day to cook their lunch, which is frequently their only meal of the day.
Life is great for the kids here, lots of space to run around, and they still speak our old Quechuan language. . Until recently, conditions at the school were not as good as conditions at other schools in the cities. So Adventure Holidays Peru helped by purchasing water pipes, glass for the windows, a concrete sink, and the tools and materials necessary to complete the repairs. We worked with the director of the school to get volunteer parents with the right skills to work on the kitchen, complete the repairs, and upgrade the services.
We know that with nominal monetary investments and a little work, these communities can improve their own situations, and not rely on government assistance!
