Birdwatching in Ecuador- 9 Days/8 Nights
Ecuador is teeming with birdlife. Even in the cities, you will see hummingbirds and other species darting around doing what birds do best. Enrich our lives!
We'll meet you in Quito and transport you to your 4* hotel for the night. Tap water is filtered, so you can brush your teeth with it, although we provide bottled drinking water in every room. On to the "middle of the earth" to learn about the equator and then after a stop at an Orchid reserve, on to the town of Mindo, where we start our birdwatching activities. Early morning is the best time to see some species and short hikes and zipline activities are optional. On to the famous Otavalo market for a day of shopping for those funny hats and other treasures. Our group will spend the day at a mountain spa dotted with pools of naturally heated water. Get optional massage services or hike the nearby canyon for more birdwatching. Back to Quito for the night and then a full day at Antisano Volcano for birdwatching and a stop in a hacienda for tea. End your trip with a full free day in Quito to explore Guayasamin museum, bookstores, artisan market or restaurants of your choice.

EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE WITH ADVENTURE HOLIDAYS PERU!!!!
STRONGLY RECOMMENDED!!!!
I traveled to Cusco, Peru this past summer (June 2008). I emailed frequently with Vidal to arrange everything for our 4 day-3 night alternative trek that went from Cusco to Huchuyqosqo to Machu Picchu.
We were a group of 5 with two English-speaking tour guides, two porters, two cooks and several horses. I would strongly recommend the alternative trail because it is not overcrowded with tourists (we only saw another group of tourists once just passing by), the view is beautiful since it has not been overrun or destroyed by people/tourists. Although the website indicates that groups of 15 are usually taken, we were able to arrange for our own hike with only 5 people, so we had our personal "tour".
